Woof Woof! :)

This is an essay which i wrote for my English Paper once...my teacher liked it loads so i thought putting it up would be good :)

Ever Since I was a child, I have practically lived with dogs as some of my closest friends, be it cuddly and soft coated pedigree dogs, or wild, crazy and dusty street dogs. Whoever made the proverb ‘A dog is a man’s best friend’ definitely meant every bit of it, and in time, I have learnt the same.

Every human being has a set of close friends. These friends are defined as people you can trust, who will sit and listen to all your whacky stories, answer your call in the middle of the night just because you need someone to hear you out, and so and forth. But in everyone’s life comes a time, when they feel like the whole world is going against them; nothing seems right and nobody seems to be helping them make it right. You just need someone who you can hug while you are crying, but end up finding that no one is there!

This is where dogs come into the picture. Dogs have this kind of sixth sense which tells them- “Hey look! Someone seems depressed. Go help them out!” and the dog comes to you and sits beside you or stares at you with puppy-dog eyes, lets you hug them and cry your heart out to them, and the best part is- whatever you tell the dog remains just between the two of you! No one else can ever get to know your little secrets! You simply can’t help but feel better after this!

Dogs are also creatures that help you sort out the problems in your head. After a long day at work or school or wherever, you come home tired and find your dog waiting for you. Just sitting down with him and running your fingers through his fur relaxes every part of your brain and makes you ready for everything to come.

Surveys around the world show that dog owners in general are more relaxed and care-free when compared to people who do not own dogs. Well in that case, if a dog takes care of your blood-pressure levels and de-stresses you, gives you company when you need it, then dogs are no less than a man’s best friend!

My personal experience with dogs for the past fifteen years of my life has been truly glorious! They have done everything for me; from waking me up in the morning (you DO NOT want to know how) to eating up my lunch when mom makes something “healthy”. They have not just been my best friends, but also somewhat my bodyguards! If my father shouts at me, they would shout back at him! Gosh would that make me feel good! When something becomes too difficult to learn up, they would immediately transform into my students and I would be their teacher. Explaining things to them seems to make remembering things easier for me!

If I could go on writing all the wonderful things dogs have done for me, I could probably end up writing a book! They have been true angels in my life and I wish everyone could understand that a dog might change their life as well! Yes, they are messy creatures who drool on all our lovely furniture, run about in mud and leave gross foot-prints on your expensive carpets. But when you are bonded to the dog, cleaning up its mess has a thing of its own! It is not disgusting or annoying, but a sense of care and love with which you clean up.

Today, dogs are just a status symbol and rarely get any actual love. But people should remember, a dog will love you with everything it can, but ONLY if you love it back! =)
